LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers is suddenly in doubt after six seasons with the team. By June 29, the 39-year-old must decide if he will become a free agent and exercise his player option for $51.4 million.

By then, we will already be aware of the basketball court location of his oldest son, Bronny James, in 2024. Bronny has a few choices. After a season at USC, he has registered for the NCAA transfer site and has added his name to the 2024 NBA Draft. He will have to choose by June 16 whether to continue his education at the university or to try his luck at being chosen in the NBA Draft on June 26–27.

LeBron’s free agency decision may be directly impacted by Bronny’s actions, since the two may wish to join an NBA team together. James can re-sign with the Lakers for as long as he wants, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. LeBron James is expected to return to the Lakers for any length of time he desires—one, two, three, or more years, for example.

LeBron James would prefer to stay in the purple and gold until he decides to hang up his boots, whenever that may be. For three seasons, the Lakers have the potential to offer James up to $164 million.

A team is not allowed to extend an offer beyond three seasons.

The Lakers are interested in drafting Bronny James in the interim. It just most likely won’t happen with the 17th overall selection.
