Sky Sports pundit reacts to January transfer window news on ‘true Spurs legend’ Hugo Lloris

According to the Sky Sports analyst, the World Cup winner is a “true Spurs legend.” Guglielmo Vicario had to decide whether to move to the Major League Soccer league for himself and his family after Ange Postecoglou replaced him.

Although Robinson is happy that the 37-year-old goalkeeper had the opportunity to say goodbye to the supporters in some way during the halftime of the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, he would have preferred to have had one more game in front of a packed crowd at the home stadium.

Lloris’ deal was set to expire in the summer, and since he had made 444 Spurs appearances this season, he was almost certainly going to leave the team.

And Robinson believes the opportunity to play his final game as an international player with 145 caps would be a fitting way for him to end his playing career in America.

“I’m delighted for Hugo,” he exclusively told Toronto News. With his long-term performances, he has been an incredible asset to the team.

“The hardest thing to do in the Premier League is to be long-lived, but he was in the league for a long time to serve the club as he has done.”

“As his career came to a close in the final few seasons, he made mistakes that cost him goals and that were inevitable for a goalie, but that’s part of what it takes to be a goalkeeper.

“When you consider his entire career, including his time spent with the Spurs and his leadership abilities both on and off the field, he is a true Spurs legend. He has donned the captain’s armband and been acknowledged.

“And even though the stadium was only half full at halftime, I was happy that he had a sort of send-off. I believe it would have been the fitting farewell for him, thus it was unfortunate that he was unable to play in front of a packed stadium during his final game.

“In my opinion, he’s been excellent. At his age and professional level, you consider your family, yourself, and your future, and he’s done precisely that by joining the Major League Soccer.

“If that’s the end of his career, it would be a fitting conclusion to an incredible journey.”
