    Blockbuster: Heat proposed to Trade Jimmy Butler to Spurs in Exchange For (3) Players

    An NBA journalist suggested that Jimmy Butler be acquired by the San Antonio Spurs from the Miami Heat in the upcoming summer.
    The following trade proposal was put forth by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey for the Spurs and Heat:
    Jimmy Butler in exchange for Kendall Johnson, Zach Collins, Jeremy Sochan, and a first-round pick in 2024 (via Toronto), as well as first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 This offseason, Butler is eligible for an extension.
    Next season, he will earn $48.8 million. Butler, who will turn 35 in September, has a $52.4 million player option for the 2025–2026 campaign.
    In five games, the Heat was defeated by the Boston Celtics in the 2024 postseason’s opening round. Butler’s knee ailment prevented him from playing.
    The Spurs, meanwhile, only managed 22 victories.
    During the season, Butler shot 49.9% from the field, 41.4% from outside the arc, and 85.8% from the free-throw line, averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.
    For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama had an outstanding debut campaign. He shot 46.5% overall, 32.5% from three, and 79.6% from the foul line while averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 3.6 blocks.

     

    When it came to blocks and blocks per game, the 20-year-old led the NBA.

     

    “It’s difficult to envision the Spurs at the bottom of the standings again if we assume even modest improvement from the Frenchman this offseason,” Bailey wrote.

    “So, San Antonio could make a win-now move, grabbing one of the league’s top playmaking wings and an all-time great playoff player in Jimmy Butler, rather than aiming for an outside shot at Cooper Flagg or Ace Bailey. Butler could be moved, even if it’s currently anticipated that he will play for the Miami Heat in 2024–2025. The 34-year-old’s durability is starting to become very doubtful, and Miami was far from competitive this season.

    Butler’s career averages with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia Sixers, and Heat are 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.

    Six All-Star teams, five All-NBA teams, and five All-Defensive teams have been selected by him. Butler signed a sign-and-trade agreement with the Sixers in the summer of 2019 to join the Heat. He led Miami to two NBA Finals appearances.

    Bailey believes that the Spurs should pursue Butler because they need additional skill to surround Wembanyama on the court.
