Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo found out Wednesday night that he will have to wait at least another year to be selected to his first All-NBA team, only a day after receiving news that he was selected to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team for the first time in his career. After finishing his seventh NBA season, Adebayo was not selected for any of the three teams that were announced on Wednesday night as the All-NBA teams for this season.
When asked if he feels like he’s been labeled as a defensive specialist, Adebayo responded, “Obviously, if you check my numbers and you’ve seen us play, you’ve seen me grow into a two-way player.” Adebayo made this comment during a Zoom call with South Florida reporters this week.
Thus, I wouldn’t claim that someone is pigeonholed. I only know that I’ve had a few of offenses in several of my major times. But I’m aware that I’ve had a lot of defense. Instead of only being labeled as “He’s a great defensive player,” I believe that I’m a true two-way player.
