Green Bay Packers release quarterback  Eason, who was signed during Jordan Love’s holdout

The Green Bay Packers released quarterback Jacob Eason on Monday.

The Packers signed Eason on July 23 in the midst of the Jordan Love contract dispute. He earned practice reps behind second-year quarterback Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Eason out of the University of Washington in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft. He played one game for the Colts in 2021 and another for the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He also was on the San Francisco 49ers’ and New York Giants’ practice squads.

Eason, a Washington native, spent his first two years of college at Georgia. He started all 13 games as a freshman in 2016, but his 2017 campaign was cut short due to injury.

He transferred back home to Washington in 2018 and had to sit out the year due to the old transfer rules. Eason led the Huskies to an 8-5 record and a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Boise State.

The release of Eason leaves an open spot on the Packers roster.
