Jer’Zhan Newton, a second-round selection of the Washington Commanders, will have surgery on his left foot a few weeks after undergoing a comparable procedure on his right foot.

Jacksonville Commanders draft pick Jer’Zhan Newton is scheduled to endure a second major operation, which is a setback to the team. Only a few weeks after undergoing a similar procedure on his right foot, the youngster will have surgery on his left foot.

The Commanders selected Illinois defensive tackle Newton in the second round of the NFL Draft this year. Despite being ranked among the top 20 players in the class by several observers, he was selected 36th overall.

Newton had spent his first full week with the club, but he was unable to practice because of an injury. Tests on his left foot indicated a partial Jones fracture, the same condition he sustained at the end of the 2023 season on his right foot.

He might not be able to attend training camp during his rookie season due to the operation, which is predicted to keep him out of action for several months. Rookies’ development depends on training camps, and skipping them might hurt a player’s season as a whole.
