Following a devastating defeat in the opening round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Miami Heat will probably make changes. The Heat have operated with Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Herro at their core for some time now. The three never completed the task, despite the fact that they were able to make it to the NBA Finals twice.
In light of this, the Heat have nothing to lose if they choose to look into alternative possibilities for the upcoming season. Herro is the least productive of the Miami’s top three players, while being the youngest. That being said, it wouldn’t be shocking if the team made the decision to trade him at any time.
If the Heat decides to let Herro go, these are some potential landing destinations for him.
When the San Antonio Spurs acquired Victor Wembanyama, one of the best rookies in history, they struck gold. The imposing Frenchman demonstrated his ability to quickly rule the league. But even though Wemby is unquestionably a formidable opponent, basketball is a team sport. San Antonio struggled all season long due to their lack of a solid support system.
Herro enters the picture at this point. Right now, the Spurs don’t have a productive point guard who can feed Wembanyama inside. When you watch some of San Antonio’s most funny moments, you’ll see that Wemby’s teammates pass the ball to him even if they give it a good look.
Herro has the ability to be a playmaker even though he isn’t particularly known for it. For example, in Game 2 of this year’s playoffs’ first-round series against the Boston Celtics, the Heat guard disheveled 14 assists. Tyler’s ability to identify his teammates with ease when he gets a solid look at the rim is evident from this.
In addition to his passing, Herro is capable of making clutch baskets for his group. Even if Wembanyama is the main attraction, if teams are able to stop him, he will still require some offensive support.
Finally, at just 24 years old, Tyler fits the mold with San Antonio’s younger roster. If everything goes well for them, the squad will be able to utilize the Herro and Wemby combination for an extended amount of time.
