Son-Heung Min has acknowledged that he is under pressure to score goals for Tottenham in lieu of Harry Kane.
With 15 goals and nine assists this season, the Spurs captain is leading Ange Postecoglou’s team in their quest to return to the Champions League the following year.
After Newcastle hammered Postecoglou’s team 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, the team lost ground on goal differential and fell out of the top four.
Son feels the pressure to replace Kane’s goals
After scoring 280 goals for Tottenham, Kane moved to the German powerhouse Bayern Munich last summer in an attempt to win championships.
The 31-year-old has acknowledged that he feels the strain as Tottenham’s go-to goal scorer.
Son has 15 goals for Spurs so far this season.
Son stated in words obtained by Mail Sport, “I think everybody wants to step up, especially since Harry left the club obviously.”
“30 goals are certain when he’s pleased here, but who will score the 30 goals for this club?
“I enjoy the pressure because it keeps me motivated to get better as a player in the Premier League.”
The South Korean international also disclosed that, prior to the England international’s £40 million summer transfer from Leicester City, he was a huge fan of James Maddison.
“I really appreciated him before he joined the Spurs because I liked this kind of player who’s making a game with his quality.
“He has a bright, bright future, but I think he can become an even better player by creating chances, scoring goals, and making those runs.”
Son left German team Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 to join Spurs, where he has since made 401 appearances and scored 83 goals for the North London club.
The forward has yet to bring home a trophy with Spurs, and after losing the Champions League and League Cup finals with the team, he will be itching to do so.
