Eric Dier agrees €4 million move to Bayern Munich as he arrives in Germany for medical
The defender for Tottenham Hotspur has flown to Germany for a medical examination.
CENTER BACK FOR TOTTENHAM According to the PA news agency, Eric Dier will go to Germany on Thursday for a medical examination before finalizing his €4 million transfer to Bayern Munich.
Since the summer, Spurs have been open to proposals for Dier, a defender who has only made one start this year under head coach Ange Postecoglou.
With just six months left on his current contract, Dier will now depart England and join former teammate Harry Kane at Munich for a fresh challenge.
Dier may have left Tottenham at the start of the season, as Postecoglou had stated. However, he stayed when the summer transfer market closed, and he ultimately made his debut in November’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea.
He was given a start in Spurs’ subsequent match against Wolves, but he has only appeared as a substitute twice since. He was also not there for Friday’s FA Cup victory over Burnley, which ended in a 1-0 victory.
Postecoglou said it was due to a minor injury, but by then Bayern had already expressed interest in signing Dier, and they have now secured a deal with Tottenham to get him.
Dier, who has been with Spurs for little under ten years, is currently in Munich for a medical check-up.
In his pregame news conference prior to Friday’s home game against Hoffenheim, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel announced Dier’s impending signing.
“At the last second, anything may always go wrong. We’re working to seal the deal while he’s in Munich, Tuchel said reporters.
“He would be a valuable addition to the team. He’s in the city, but we’ll have to wait and see about everything else.
Eric has developed into a center-back specialist. He is capable of playing in a back three and in either center back position. He used to play midfield quite a bit. We’ll wait and see whether it occurs.
Tottenham’s hectic week is far from over as Timo Werner, who joined on loan on Tuesday, and Radu Dragusin, a center defender from Genoa, are likely to complete their transfers on Thursday, with Djed Spence leaving the team.
