We Are Fine: Colin Cowherd offers enlightening commentary on Angel Reese’s harsh blow to Caitlin Clark

That’s fantastic for women’s basketball, according to Colin Cowherd.

Though the drama involving Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese persists, neither the Chicago Sky nor the Indiana Fever are in a position to win the championship this year. Colin Cowherd adds his perspective to the WNBA dispute as a fellow sports analyst.

The flagrant foul committed by Sky forward Angel Reese against Fever guard Caitlin Clark, in Cowherd’s opinion, is advantageous for the WNBA.

In the third quarter of their Sunday afternoon match, there was a foul. Even though both players have played it down as just a “basketball play,” the incident has been used by the media to support Caitlin Clark’s story.

Caitlin Clark is praised by Colin Cowherd

On Thursday, Cowherd said that the response to the infraction played out precisely as he had predicted.

On a Monday night’s broadcast of The Herd, Colin Cowherd gave Clark high marks for her basketball abilities, describing her as a really gifted player who is always getting better and displaying brilliance on the court. He highlighted how everything is coming together for her by mentioning her extraordinary vision and passing skills. Cowherd also pointed out that athletes like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark know how to handle the scenario, even though the media might find it difficult to cover some parts of it.

This is so predictable. Everyone is freaking out about Caitlin Clark. Angel Reese is criticizing her and calling hard fouls. Major League Baseball is a good comparison here. Cowherd spoke passionately about the recent controversy. Major League Baseball and the WNBA always feel like they’re ignored. They’re very protective of “THERE’S A WAY TO PLAY THE GAME!”, it’s very insular, and it’s a very “PAY YOUR DUES!” mentality.

    Observers overreacting

Although many people are overreacting to Reese accidentally smacking Clark in the head, Cowherd believes the WNBA could benefit from some toughness.

“So, shortly after entering Major League Baseball straight out of high school, handsome and cool Bryce Harper got into a fist fight with one of his teammates.” The way they were hurling themselves at him was very much “YOU’RE THE PRODIGY!” YOU’RE THE HOT SHOT! “, and it lasted for about three years instead of six or seven games. There was a lot of sanctimonious material that went something like, “HERE’S A WAY TO PLAY THE GAME!” It’s really insular, baseball. The radio host went on, “There is a way to play the game and there are ‘unwritten rules.'”

A few weeks ago, Chennedy Carter’s hip-check foul on Clark sparked a lot of debate. It was first deemed a common foul but was later elevated to a flagrant-1 following a league review. Debates regarding whether players were intentionally harming Clark and using excessive physicality on the court erupted after this incident.

“The WNBA— similarly ignoring and bemoaning the publicity— and here comes the Iowa hot shot and it’s ‘PAY YOUR DUES TIME!’, and they’re pushing her around and there are flagrant fouls,” Colin Cowherd said in his statement. There is an unfortunate sense of “US vs. everybody else” in the WNBA, and Caitlin Clark is an outsider. She will have to make amends for her actions. Both you and I have seen this stuff previously.

Hazing is something you see in fraternities. In the military, it is evident. This is how certain societies function; they are isolated and highly tribal. Cowherd likened the controversy surrounding Clark to private hazing, saying, “This is hazing, but not nearly as ugly as the private hazing that we’ve had historically at fraternities and in the military.”

The victory for women’s basketball is this. This egregious foul play is winning. I will be furious about this because I constantly stood up for Draymond Green, right? It’s blatantly improper. Alright, so she got up and played.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will be alright.

According to Cowherd, women who commit egregious transgressions shouldn’t be categorized as villains. He brought up Diana Taurasi’s earlier egregious foul, emphasizing that these kinds of things happen in the game of basketball.

He compared it to the different facets of any sector, including basketball, and pointed out that the NBA and WNBA are also dealing with these difficulties. “Those who jump right into this sport without ever watching it don’t realize how competitive the WNBA is.” “Those who don’t watch the WNBA—me included—jump in and get angry,” Cowherd emphasized.

In an attempt to vent his aggravation, Cowherd said he doesn’t care that people are upset that the league didn’t exist six months ago. He made it clear that he was fed up with the general uproar on the internet and on social media sites like TikTok, adding that he thought it was illogical for people to become outraged over something they had never heard of or followed before.

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are both doing well and are a member of what the seasoned radio presenter believes to be the greatest WNBA rookie class ever, he assured everyone. He reassured everyone, including Clark, that everything would be alright and urged them to take a big breath.
