In the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Travis Kelce and his brother Jason got into a heated argument over a long Patrick Mahomes run that generated a lot of controversy.
In Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch with the 49ers, quarterback Mahomes broke free for a spectacular 33-yard run near the end of the third quarter.
However, onlookers swiftly asserted that Mahomes seemed to indicate he was going out of bounds, causing defenders to slow down and avoid hitting him.
But then, for an additional gain, Mahomes ran along the sidelines and stepped inside a defender.
Defensive players are afraid to hit a player as they go out of bounds because they know that doing so will result in an instant 15-yard penalty.
In their most recent New Heights podcast, Jason discussed the incident and implied that Mahomes was competent.
Travis angrily disagreed, pointing out that Mahomes couldn’t have made the tackle even if he had wanted to because Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt slammed the defender closest to him.
After a 33-yard sprint along the sidelines at the end of the third quarter, Jason remarked, “He (Mahomes) had the longest run of his career, and if we are being honest, he used his quarterbackness to his advantage.”
Travis retaliated right away, saying, “Dude, leave now.” You rewatch it. The man is pushed out of bounds by Kareem.
“Repeat this: Kareem is right there, he runs away, sees 53 shove him, loses his balance, and then gets in the way of 90.” I’m not attempting to listen to this dude.
“All right, all right, easy,” Jason replied. All right, touche, touche, ok. I apologise! I failed to notice the push.
“I hear what everyone is saying,” Travis retorted. Undoubtedly, some quarterbacks exploit that.
Since he is unable to gain any more yards with his legs, Pat has been quite consistent in letting people know when he is going out of bounds. He is not attempting to deceive a man who is going out of bounds. Pat doesn’t do it, in my opinion.
He never gave the impression of crossing the line. However, I get what everyone is saying. On the sidelines, quarterbacks are occasionally shielded, which might make players hesitant and discourage them from trying to pull his head off the ball.
As the Chiefs upset the 49ers 28–18, Mahomes overcame two interceptions to produce a few big plays with his feet, keeping the Chiefs as the only team in the league without a loss.
For the first time since the 2018 playoffs against Indianapolis, the Chiefs scored four touchdowns on the ground and rushed for a season-high 184 yards.
On a day when Mahomes passed for his second-fewest yards ever in a game he didn’t leave injured, the defence took care of the rest with three interceptions against Brock Purdy and the 49ers.
“It’s difficult to call it a Super Bowl rematch, because there are different guys out there,” Travis continued while discussing the match.
