Earlier tonight, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Kaizer Chiefs defeated SuperSport United 4-0 in a Carling Knockout match.

After defeating Matsatsantsa thanks to goals from Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro, and Ashley Du Preez, the Amakhosi joined Stellenbosch FC, Magesi FC, Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Cape Town City in the quarterfinal draw

During the first twenty minutes, SuperSport was the more aggressive team. Tashreeq Morris had the closest attempt at goal, but Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari stopped him from a close angle.

Morris got up highest to head on target from a corner kick halfway through the first half, but Ntwari was once again in a good position to make a save.

When Reeve Frosler produced a beautiful low cross from the right to find an unmarked Wandile Duba in the 29th minute, Chiefs should have taken the lead.

However, the youthful player scuffed his shot, causing the ball to loop into the crossbar before being caught by goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.

Shortly after, Morris managed to get away a free header from a corner kick once more before hitting the post at the other end.

On minute 33, Gaston Sirino scored a stunning goal for the Amakhosi after cutting inside from the right and launching a left-footed drive from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner of the net.

And with only the goalie to beat, Duba placed Ranga Chivaviro through on goal in injury time before halftime, but the striker’s low shot missed the mark.

The Soweto team should have doubled their lead. However, it didn’t take Chiefs long to score their second goal, as Yusuf Maart put the visitors firmly in control of the cup match in the 53rd minute by heading home Sirino’s corner kick.

Matsatsantsa responded by stepping up their game and threatening to tie the score, but Chivaviro’s decisive finish of a Chiefs counter at the 73-minute mark essentially ended the match.

With little over ten minutes of regulation time remaining, Gape Moralo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, making matters worse for United.

Ashley Du Preez slipped the offside trap and finished coolly with his left foot to complete the scoring as Chiefs increased the pressure in an attempt to score a fourth goal deep into injury time.

United’s situation worsened when Gape Moralo was sent off with little over ten minutes of regulation time left after being given a second yellow card. As Chiefs stepped up their push to try to score a fourth goal deep into injury time, Ashley Du Preez slipped the offside trap and finished coolly with his left foot to conclude the scoring.

At the end of it all, Supersport scored 0 goals whiles The Chiefs won with 4 goals

SuperSport: Goss, Mobbie, Okon, Rapoo, Sanoka, Ayer (Lakay 62’), Ndlovu, Moralo, Morris (Mangezi 72’), Pule (Poggenpoel 85’), Dzvukamanja (Mahlangu 72’)
