A young gunner for Arsenal is allegedly “very disappointed” over under-18s boss Jack Wilshere’s probable departure.
The impending departure of former player and current under-18s manager Jack Wilshere, who is set to join Norwich City as a first-team coach on Thursday, has reportedly left one of Arsenal’s most highly regarded wonderkids “extremely disappointed.”
Despite only being 14 years old, Max Dowman has already established himself as a staple in the under-18 squad and made his UEFA Youth League debut, being the youngest player to ever score in the competition. He made his Arsenal under-18s debut in 2023 at the age of 13.
Wilshere, his manager, is officially quitting the squad to take a new position as a first-team coach with Norwich City of the EFL Championship. His last day with the Gunners is scheduled for Wednesday which is on the 23rd of October, 2024.
The always trustworthy David Ornstein reports that, considering Dowman’s great relationship with the gifted adolescent, sources close to his family are “extremely disappointed” by the news of the 32-year-old’s departure.
Despite just being 14 years old, Dowman, who plays central midfield, the same position Wilshere formerly occupied, flourished under the youthful coach and soon rose to become one of the team’s most promising young players.
“There’s always a concern when fielding such a young player in these matches, but if you’re good enough you’re old enough,” Wilshere said in an earlier statement, expressing his great regard for the young player.
“Dowman, who is only 14 years old and hasn’t yet begun his GCSEs, has the potential to be more reliable. Given his age, we must strike a balance between allowing him to play and enjoy himself and doing everything we can to help him.
Following rumours of Dowman’s dissatisfaction, some of the best clubs in European football are reportedly “attentive” to his predicament; nonetheless, it is too soon to say that he may quit the club at this moment.
