Steelers Captain Cam Heyward Raises Concerns Over Grueling Schedule
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are navigating a demanding stretch of three games in just 11 days, facing the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and now the Kansas City Chiefs. During this period, the team has suffered multiple injuries, prompting defensive captain Cam Heyward to speak out about the impact of such tight scheduling on players.
“It’s definitely a concern,” Heyward stated. “This is something both the [Players Association] and the NFL need to address. We’ve been pointing out issues with Thursday Night games for a while. It’s not easy. I’ve played every day of the week, and we signed up for it, but what does it do to the players? I wish we had better answers.”
The Steelers have lost several key players during this stretch, including their starting cornerbacks, safety, and defensive tackle, as well as key depth players like Tyler Matakevich and Ben Skowronek.
Although Heyward acknowledged the challenges, his primary focus remains on the upcoming matchup against the Chiefs. “It would be nice to have a bye week before a Wednesday game,” he said. “We just played Saturday, but I can’t dwell on it. We don’t have the luxury to think about it right now. The Chiefs are coming, and it’s Christmas Day, so that’s where our focus is.”
Despite the setbacks, the Steelers are determined to push forward while raising awareness about the challenges of a demanding NFL schedule.
