Not the fans expectation: KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports that Jalen Dalton, a defensive end, is being signed by the Dallas Cowboys. His signing to the practice squad is more likely than not the 53-man roster, though it’s yet unknown which one.
Since 2022, when he played seven games with the Atlanta Falcons after beginning the season on the practice squad, Dalton, an undrafted free agent in 2019, has not participated in an NFL regular season game.

Dalton most recently played football professionally for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL. Dalton also had a few brief spells with the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers earlier in his career. But he never appeared in a game for any of these clubs.
Injuries were a major factor in that. He had two season-ending injuries with the Saints. One in August 2020, which ended his season, and another in 2021, which “appeared to be on his way to making the 53-man roster,” says nola.com.
The Cowboys are probably looking at Dalton as depth while they deal with injuries in the defensive end zone. Marshawn Kneeland and DeMarcus Lawrence are still listed as injured. Micah Parsons’ availability against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 is uncertain, according to Mike McCarthy.
It’s also unlikely to happen at any time, so it’s definitely not the splash move Cowboys fans are expecting for a turn around. Cowboys have made it known that they want to get better with the players that are already on the club. If they make any moves before the trade deadline, it will only be to add depth. This is in accordance with their broader concept of team building. And so, Dalton is not the fans expectation but he is the depth in the defence end room.
