Manchester United’s search for a first win of the season continued as Bruno Fernandes’ penalty miss proved costly in a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

United thought they had snatched victory when Leny Yoro’s header deflected in off Rodrigo Muniz to give them the lead. But substitute Emile Smith Rowe struck late, converting from an Alex Iwobi cross to earn Fulham a valuable point.

The turning point came in the first half when Fernandes, normally so reliable from the spot, blazed his penalty over the bar — his first miss since December 2023. The United captain looked unsettled after an unusual collision with referee Chris Kavanagh just moments before taking the kick.

While Erik ten Hag’s men dominated spells of the game, their wastefulness in front of goal extended their winless run, leaving fans frustrated. Fulham, meanwhile, showed resilience and ended their eight-match home losing streak against United.

Post-match, Fulham boss Marco Silva voiced anger at the awarding of United’s goal, insisting “everybody in the world” could see Yoro had fouled Calvin Bassey in the build-up.

Both sides remain without a win this season — but it’s United who will feel they let all three points slip away.
