Sky Sports report that Archie Gray underwent the first part of his Tottenham medical last night, with Spurs now ‘close’ to completing a deal for the Leeds United star.

Yesterday, a number of trustworthy writers (David Ornstein, Fabricio Romano, and Alasdair Gold) stated that Tottenham is attempting to buy Archie Gray from Leeds United, even though negotiations were reportedly in the early stages.

In an effort to strengthen his midfield and full-back options before the new season begins, Ange Postecoglou was even rumored to be preparing talks with the Leeds player himself (Mirror).

According to Football Insider, Gray was scheduled to see a doctor at Spurs as early as today after his attempted transfer to Brentford collapsed this week.

It was widely reported that Brentford had agreed personal terms and organised a medical with the young midfielder (The Athletic), only to have Leeds reject the payment structure of their £35m bid (The Athletic).

Sky Sports now report that Gray underwent the first part of his Tottenham medical last night and ‘every expectation’ is that he will soon sign for the North London club.

Lyall Thomas and Michael Bridge reported: ‘Tottenham are close to completing a deal to sign Archie Gray from Leeds. Sky Sports News understands he has already completed part of a medical.

‘The final negotiations are ongoing and every expectation he will sign for Spurs.’

I really hope Spurs can get this one over the line. It isn’t a cheap deal, but will likely be covered by the sales of Emerson Royal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. After all, Gray can play both of those positions.

It’s exciting to see Ange building such a young and hungry team, you can’t help but compare it to the feeling around Spurs during those first couple of years under Pochettino. Let’s hope we can get this deal done!
