In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 13, 2025, Grande Prairie RCMP officers responded to a reported vehicle theft in progress. The incident occurred around 4:22 a.m. at a gas station on the western side of Grande Prairie. The owner of a Ford pick-up truck had briefly left his vehicle unattended while stopping at the gas station. Upon returning, he discovered a man attempting to steal his truck.
In an effort to stop the theft, the vehicle’s owner confronted the suspect. During the confrontation, the suspect managed to get the truck moving, dragging the owner a short distance before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the owner did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect then drove off in the stolen vehicle, prompting a search by RCMP.
Approximately one hour after the initial report, the stolen pick-up truck was located by police in a wooded area near Township Road 710 and Range Road 83A. With assistance from the Grande Prairie Rural RCMP and the RCMP Police Dog Services, officers conducted a coordinated search of the area. Their efforts led to the successful arrest of the suspect shortly after the vehicle was discovered.
The individual arrested was identified as 54-year-old Charles Mcintosh, a resident of British Columbia. Following his arrest, Mcintosh was formally charged with multiple criminal offences related to the theft and the circumstances surrounding it. The charges include: assault with a weapon, theft over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order, and possession of ammunition while knowing that such possession was unauthorized.
After being taken into custody, Mcintosh appeared before a justice during a judicial hearing. He was subsequently remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on May 7, 2025.
