NFL great Chad Johnson has a sneaking suspicion that Russell Wilson, who is having a rough time with the Denver Broncos, would sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We only learned this past week that Wilson is selling his enormous $25 million Denver home. Many are now certain that he will depart the team after being benched at the end of the previous campaign. According to rumors from NFL Network, he might still start for the Broncos as their starting quarterback in 2019, but a new notion suggests he already knows where he wants to go next.
Former wide receiver Johnson, also referred to as OchoCinco, claims he has been informed that Wilson will join the Steelers if he departs the Broncos. He added, “A little birdie told me, and I said this many shows ago,” on his program “Nightcap.” Russell Wilson will be visiting the Steelers soon.
The Steelers used three different quarterbacks in the previous campaign. The team’s first pick, Kenny Pickett, struggled in his sophomore season. Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky were similarly unable to secure a starting position.
Pickett has only scored 13 touchdowns in his 25 NFL games. He has also thrown an equal number of interceptions, and it appears that the team’s management is looking for a new starting quarterback.
Wilson’s benching in December was an unexpected move given his strong season statistics. He refused to alter his contract, even though the team was having trouble and they wanted him to.
After backup Jarrett Stidham took his spot, he made hints that the Broncos essentially wanted him to accept a pay reduction so they could rearrange their starting lineup.
The Broncos will be hit with the largest dead salary cap penalty in NFL history if they choose to release Wilson, as many anticipate. If they give him a post-June 1st cut, it will cost them $85 million over the course of the following two seasons. Wilson was originally connected to the Atlanta Falcons, but after Chad Johnson’s remarks, he is now expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
