With a 29-yard touchdown pass from Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson, the Steelers took an early 7-0 lead. However, it didn’t take them long to resume the fight.
Lynn Swann and Terry Bradshaw connected for a 32-yard throw, during which Swann outran the Cowboys defender and managed to keep both feet in bounds. This allowed Bradshaw to set up Randy Grossman for a seven-yard touchdown throw, tying the score at seven. Dallas led 10–7 at the half and went into the locker room after a field goal.
In the second half, Cowboys defender Cliff Harris made fun of Roy Gerela by giving him a faux pat on the helmet after he missed his second field goal of the match. Linebacker Jack Lambert became enraged and sent Harris to the ground, setting the Steelers on fire.
The Black and Gold led 15–10 after Gerela nailed two field goals and the Steelers scored on a safety following a blocked punt. Bradshaw continued
