On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the governor of Benue State, gave Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, the managing director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), instructions to start making plans right away for the company’s bread factory to be established in Makurdi, in the state’s Gboko local government area.
Following a land donation to the State Government by a local government indigene who urged the Governor to expand the bread factory to the Tiv Nation headquarters, Governor Alia issued this directive during a Thanksgiving Mass honouring the State’s Accountant General, Mrs. Theresa Nyitse.
As part of events commemorating his first year in office, the two subsidiaries—a Water Factory and a BIPC Bakery—were introduced on Monday, May 27, 2024, as a testament to the governor’s commitment to the state’s economic development and progress.
It is important to note that the Managing Director of BIPC estimates that the monthly sales of bread manufactured and distributed to Benue people and abroad range from N120 million to N150 million.
Before he was elected Governor of the State, the Catholic community of St. Brendan’s Catholic Rectory, Ande, Gboko, had been completely blacked out.
Governor Alia also ordered the Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperative to release a 35KVA transformer to the community, believing that once the transformer was installed, the community would come alive with a variety of economic activity.
On behalf of the State Government, he also gave the Church N10 million to help build the church as part of the several initiatives they have started.
The governor urged the Benue people to continue supporting his administration so that more benefits of democracy may reach their doorsteps, pledging his dedication to their welfare regardless of party affiliation.
In her remarks, Mrs. Theresa Nyitse, the Accountant General, thanked the Governor for considering her as one of the State’s most qualified indigenous candidates for the position. She also promised to uphold the principles of her profession in the service of God and the Governor, who speaks for the people.
Earlier in his sermon, Rev. Fr. Dominic Asor noted that God is merciful and can change any difficult situation for Christians. He challenged them to learn to have unending confidence and hope in God. In order to avoid failing God, the Governor, and the Benue people, Fr. Asor urged the Accountant General to be watchful and careful in her work.
Members of the State Executive Council, the Director General of Government House Administration, Special Advisers, DGs/MDs of Agencies and Parastatals, State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Maurice Orwough, State APC Working Committee Chairman, Hon. Benjamin Omale, House of Representatives Member for Katsina Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency, Hon. Solomon Wombo, and other high-ranking government officials were among the governor’s entourage that attended the Thanksgiving Mass.
