According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Celtic may earn almost £48 million if they advance to the Champions League knockout stages this season.
Following Uefa’s format change this season, elite Champions League clubs may be eligible to earn an additional £23 million from the competition, according to a story published by The Times on August 27.
The number of participating clubs has increased from 32 to 36. Each team is facing eight different opponents, four of whom are at home and four of whom are away, in a single league competition.
After defeating Slovan Bratislava 5-1 to start their European season, Celtic lost to Borussia Dortmund 7-1, which was disheartening.
However, Brendan Rodgers’ team bravely played their third group match against Atalanta on Wednesday, drawing 0-0 with the Serie A team.
With two away games remaining against Dinamo Zagreb and Aston Villa, Celtic will play Young Boys, Club Brugge, and RB Leipzig at home.
Rangers could lose badly to Celtic if they qualify for the knockout stage.
Each side will receive a guaranteed £16 million for participating in the Champions League this season, according to official Uefa records made public in March.
