Tottenham Hotspur FC has made recruiting a center-back a top priority for the summer transfer window. In the lead-up to the window, the team has been linked with a move for a plethora of CBs.
After the obstacles that Ange encountered in the just finished season, Hotspur Way has an extreme need for a central defender.
At one point, he was obliged to play fill-in full-backs in the middle of the defense, and looking back, the Australian coach would want to avoid doing this heading into the next campaign. Hotspur Way executives, including Daniel Levy, would like to see more depth added to the N17 roster so that Ange has the resources to correct the defensive weaknesses that have been highlighted this season.
Napoli secures Buongiorno
While Napoli and the North Londoners were debating which summer addition to make to the squad, Napoli moved quickly to obtain his services. Torino’s president, Urbano Cairo, reportedly wanted to sell his greatest player for around €55 million, but Il Mattino (calcionapoli24.it) reports that the Naples-based team is only prepared to part with €30 million. The rumor has it that Buongiorno’s deal with the Gli Azzurri will not be worth more than €35 million as he approaches the move. The master of transfers, Fabrizio Romano, also praised Napoli’s advancement.
This does not really affect Tottenham other than the removal of a name from the list of targets. The team will continue to search for a central defender during the summer transfer window in order to make sure they have the quantity and caliber of players required for a competitive season.

Still, the team will have one more chance to get Alessandro Buongiorno if they make a better offer than Napoli is. Whether the North Londoners are serious enough to sign the 25-year-old or if they move on to other targets remains to be seen.
