BREAKING:Yorkshire Coast GP Practices Among Those to Receive… read more

Seventeen GP practices across North Yorkshire are set to receive a share of government funding aimed at upgrading their facilities and creating a more efficient and welcoming environment for patients. This initiative, part of the government’s 2024 Spending Review, will see a total of £102 million allocated to GP surgeries across England. The funding is intended to support improvements in infrastructure and space management at GP practices, ensuring they are better equipped to meet growing patient needs.

Although the announcement was made earlier, the government has now released the detailed list of practices that will benefit from the investment. In North Yorkshire, the selected practices include:

    Beech House Surgery in Knaresborough

    Castle Health Centre in Scarborough

Church Avenue Medical Group in Harrogate

    Derwent Practice in Malton

Dr Akester & Partners in Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon

    Eastgate Medical Centre in Knaresborough

    The Friary Surgery in Richmond

Great Ayton Health Centre in Great Ayton

    Hunmanby Surgery in Hunmanby

    Mayford House Surgery in Northallerton

Mowbray Group Practice, which serves Northallerton and Hutton Rudby

    Park Parade Surgery in Harrogate

    Pickering Medical Practice in Pickering

    Stillington Surgery in Stillington

    Stockwell Road Surgery in Knaresborough

    Thirsk Doctors Surgery in Thirsk

    Dyneley House Surgery in Skipton

In addition to the North Yorkshire practices, Bridlington Medical Centre in East Yorkshire is also among the beneficiaries.

The funds, while not new, are being officially allocated now and are expected to have a significant impact on how GP services are delivered. The objective is to enhance both the functionality and patient experience within these primary care facilities. With better space management and upgraded infrastructure, these practices are likely to be able to see more patients and provide services in a more comfortable and efficient setting.

Ashley Green, the Chief Executive Officer of Healthwatch North Yorkshire, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of having modern, accessible health services close to home. She noted that feedback from local communities often stresses the value of having well-resourced and conveniently located medical services. Green expressed hope that the investments would not only improve the patient experience but also ease pressure on GP staff.

The funding will be distributed through NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), the regional bodies responsible for planning and financing healthcare services. These boards will oversee how the improvements are implemented and ensure the funds are used effectively to meet local health needs.

Overall, this investment is seen as a positive step toward strengthening primary care services in North Yorkshire and making them more resilient to future healthcare demands.
