Breaking:ZMARZLIK LANDS MAXIMUM POINTS IN LANDSHUT AFTER SPEEDWAY GP &…read more

Polish speedway star Bartosz Zmarzlik kicked off his campaign for a record-equalling sixth Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) World Championship in spectacular style, claiming the full 24 points available at the WWK FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut. Zmarzlik, who is chasing history to become only the third rider to win six world titles, dominated the event by winning both the afternoon sprint race and the evening’s main SGP final.

The five-time world champion began his day by winning the sprint race in qualifying, securing four championship points. However, due to a timing issue where he failed to line up in time for start position selections, he lost the advantage of choosing first and had to pick his starting position last despite winning the sprint. Nevertheless, Zmarzlik used this as fuel for motivation, later stating that the incident helped him focus and push harder for victory in the main event.

In the evening’s final, Zmarzlik showcased his determination and top form by defeating British rider Dan Bewley and Latvia’s Andzejs Lebedevs, who finished second and third respectively. The win marks Zmarzlik’s 27th career Speedway GP victory and strengthens his bid to become the first rider to win four consecutive SGP world titles and six in just seven years.

Zmarzlik admitted that the day started with difficulties during practice but praised the adjustments his team made to find the right setup. He expressed satisfaction in achieving a personal milestone—winning the sprint, the five regular heats, and the final all in one event for the first time in his career. He thanked the fans for their energy and support, noting that they played a big role in making the night special for the riders.

Australian rider Brady Kurtz also made headlines, finishing fourth in only his third SGP appearance and first on a European track as a full-time rider. Meanwhile, Dan Bewley overcame a shaky qualifying round and the challenge of racing after every track maintenance break—a tough starting position he voluntarily chose. Despite this, he managed to reach the last-chance qualifier, win it, and secure a strong second-place finish. Bewley credited his team and supporters for their unwavering belief in him.

Latvia’s Andzejs Lebedevs was thrilled with his third-place finish, marking his first-ever podium in Speedway GP history. As Latvia’s only SGP representative, Lebedevs viewed the achievement as a breakthrough moment, emphasizing the steady progress he has made. He acknowledged his team’s effort in scoring consistent points and highlighted the strategic gate choice that helped him win the last-chance qualifier and secure a spot in the final.

The next stop in the championship is the highly anticipated Orlen Oil FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw on May 17, where Zmarzlik will aim to become the first Polish rider to win at the PGE Narodowy in front of an expected crowd of 50,000. Despite the pressure of competing on home soil, Zmarzlik remains focused and determined to treat it like any other round, aiming to deliver his best performance.
