Tyler Lockett, Jake Bobo, and Jarran Reed are selected as Sunday Night Football game captains.
For their matchup with the Green Bay Packers in week 15, the Seattle Seahawks have named their game captains.
For this Sunday Night Football game, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, defensive tackle Jarrad Reed, and wide receiver Jake Bobo have all been named captains.
Bobo and Lockett, the wide receivers selected this week, don’t seem to have any ties to Wisconsin or Green Bay. But earlier in the season, both were selected captains: Lockett in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, and Bobo in Week 2. So far, both receivers have had poor seasons. Bobo’s only comparable season is his rookie campaign, but in 14 games thus far, he has only managed 10 receptions for 89 yards.
He caught 19 passes for 196 yards and two scores during his rookie season. Lockett, however, has only managed 41 receptions for 511 yards and two scores. Additionally, since November 3rd, Lockett has not surpassed 20 receiving yards in a game. The statistical game is probably missing for both Lockett and Bobo (particularly Bobo) because of a lack of opportunity. It is challenging to provide additional touches to receivers further down the depth chart when DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are locked into the top two places.
Reed does have ties to Green Bay, unlike the wide receivers. Reed played for the Packers in 2022 before moving back to Seattle in 2023. Many people believe that Reed’s 2022 season was a weak year for the nine-year veteran. But by returning to Seattle, Reed was able to revive his career. Reed has recorded 32 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one pass defence thus far this season. All of this stems from a defensive line rotational position. Reed has previously been chosen captain for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.
This new method of choosing team captains was introduced by Mike Macdonald at the start of the season. This is just one more way that Macdonald has set himself apart from Pete Carroll, his predecessor, who had captains for the entire season.
