After an assistant coach lost his head over a player and confronted him after he made a mistake, college football fans are reacting horrified.
An assistant coach from Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) was observed yelling and running down the sidelines during a Marshall vs. ULM game.
The coach, who looks to be offensive line coach Cameron Blankenship, can be seen sprinting up and down the sideline before sprinting out onto the field in a video that NBC 4 Columbus anchor Jerod Smalley uploaded to X, formerly Twitter.
Blankenship seemed to be being told to cool down by a coach in sunglasses who looked to be Bryan Vincent, the head coach at ULM.
However, Blankenship lost control of his anger and was shown yelling at offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson while hopping up and down and tearing off his coaching headset.
Blankenship was seen running after his teammate as Hutchinson bounded off the sidelines.
Blankenship pushed and bumped Hutchinson’s chest as he screamed in the lineman’s face as he ran after him after he had left the pitch.
Assistant Coach Cameron Blankenship made physical contact with a ULM student-athlete on the sidelines during Saturday’s game at Marshall, according to a statement released by ULM Athletics to DailyMail.com. This is not how ULM football does business, and it is unacceptable.
“The assistant coach will be subject to disciplinary action.” The discipline will be addressed internally because this is a personnel issue.
After Blankenship’s actions infuriated fans, they vented their resentment on X.
“That is an adult man going crazy over a mistake made by a college student.” A coach should never physically pursue a player in such manner. Gross!, a person commented on the social media site.
“Unacceptable,” another wrote. Put that coach on leave.
Another person commented, “That’s one way to make your team no longer respect you.”
“He ought to be let go.” It’s unacceptable. He’s fortunate the player didn’t remove him. “This coach is a little guy,” someone else wrote.
Louisiana-Monroe lost 28-23 at Marshall on the road, dropping to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The passing attack of neither side was very strong, but ULM running back Ahmad Hardy ran for 207 yards and a touchdown.
When they play Texas State the following week, they’ll be hoping to recover.
