West Brom in Talks for Midfielder Previously Wanted by Premier League Club

West Brom are reportedly chasing England youth international, Noah Buck, who has already become a key player for New England Revolution, despite only just turning 19.

Noah Buck has impressed in the MLS

A young Englishman paving his way to top-flight football through the MLS is unusual, but not unheard of. Everton’s Jack Harrison for example is one of the few players to earn a Premier League switch off the back of impressing in America, with Noah Buck tipped to follow Harrison’s footstep

Buck only turned 19 earlier this year but has already racked up an impressive 57 appearances for MLS side, New England Revolution, scoring five times and assisting two goals in that period, whilst playing as a central midfielder. (TransferMarkt)

Buck was born in Massachusetts but holds an English citizenship, making him a potentially attractive option for a club such as West Brom to sign.

Tottenham are one of many big clubs who were interested in Buck

Popular journalist, Fabrizio Romano, announced that Noah Buck is attracting a large pool of interest back in December 2023, stating that various European sides are keen, with many English clubs taking an interest.

Football.London revealed the following month that Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham were one of the English sides who had been interested in Noah Buck with the teenager’s experience at such a young age a particular attraction for Spurs, alongside the fact that the midfielder is well-regarded among England’s youth set-up, the belief in January was that Buck could be signed for £6 million.

There’s good reason for Buck’s impressive reputation among England’s youth set up with Buck already being capped for England U19’s and U20’s, despite playing in a lesser-known league.

The 19-year-old has been playing alongside Brighton’s Jack Hinselwood and now-England international, Kobe Mainoo, in England youth sides, proving that there’s plenty to be excited about Buck, should he follow the paths of his England youth teammates.

West Brom are reported to be in talks for Noah Buck

Despite Premier League interest, West Brom are reportedly in talks for Buck as they look to secure the highly rated midfielder, perhaps before he makes a move elsewhere.

TalkWBA, who previously broke the story of West Brom signing Lewis Dobbin on loan, have revealed that The Baggies have held talks with New England Revolution about signing their promising midfielder, although nothing is close or agreed.

It’s also been stated that it remains to be seen whether or not a move does materialise with Carlos Corberan’s side expected to prioritise other signings for the moment as the window approaches its final weeks.

West Brom are having to be smart in the transfer market

The Baggies have had to be smart with their business in recent weeks after the club were placed under an EFL-imposed business plan, according to Sky Sports, due to concerns that West Brom were nearing the limit of the financial restrictions that the league enforces.

West Brom has still managed to do some business this window, mainly utilising the free agent and loan market in order to make financially smart additions but they still may require some midfield depth, which Noah Buck could provide.

Manager, Carlos Corberan, hasn’t shied away from the tricky task at hand with West Brom, but remains in fighting spirits, stating in pre-season, “I am prepared to face the most difficult challenge of my life as a coach”. (Birmingham World)

The departures of Okay Yokusulu, Nathaniel Chalobah and Yann M’Villa have thinned out The Baggies’ midfield options this summer, potentially explaining interest in teenage midfielder, Noah Buck, although the 19-year-old may not be able to make an instant impact should he join, due to Buck currently being sidelined with a hamstring injury that has kept him out for just over a month.
