Olympics marathon champion Sifan Hassan has added another feather to her cap after being named Dutch Sportswoman of the Year following her remarkable achievements in Paris.
After winning Dutch Sportswoman of the Year on Wednesday, Sifan Hassan, a legendary running star for the Netherlands, is celebrating yet another accolade.
The 31-year-old won the most votes at the awards ceremony, surpassing Olympic 400-meter hurdles silver medallist Femke Bol, Marit Bouwmeester, Karolien Florijn, and Sharon van Rouwendaal.
When Hassan bravely decided to compete in three races and won medals in each, she was praised for her incredible accomplishment in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Before defeating then world mark holder Tigist Assefa to win gold in the marathon in an Olympic record time of 2.22.55, the Ethiopian-born runner competed in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter races and placed third in both events.
After only one day of respite between her 10,000-meter race and the marathon, Hassan won the gold medal, showcasing her incredible stamina and strength.
It is Hassan’s third honour of the month. She won the World Athletics Athlete of the Year and Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year awards at the Monaco gala at the beginning of December, and two days later, she was named the 2024 Peace and Sport Awards Champion for Peace of the Year.
“Sportswoman of the Year! I had such a great year and it is special for me to end with this award, with the voice of the Dutch athletes. I am grateful for all the support and support I felt this year,” she posted on X following her crowning.
Having won Dutch Sportswoman of the Year in 2019 and 2021, this is Hassan’s third time winning the title.
