According to reports, Arsenal intends to rekindle their interest in a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a striker for Everton who the Toffees are eager to cash in on next season.
A few years ago, Manchester United was among the Premier League’s top teams that were strongly linked to the England international, along with the Gunners.
After scoring 16 goals in the top level during the 2020–21 season, Calvert-Lewin was one of the Premier League’s most sought-after attacking assets. However, his numbers have subsequently taken a precipitous decline.
The 27-year-old scored a decent seven goals in the Premier League the previous season, but he has only scored twice for Sean Dyche’s team in 2024–25 and hasn’t scored in any of his previous ten outings in the top tier.
Despite starting 13 of the Toffees’ 14 games in the top league this season, Calvert-Lewin’s lack of production has contributed to Everton’s dismal 15th place in the Premier League standings, putting Beto at bay.
Will Everton sell Calvert-Lewin for £20 million?
Since Calvert-Lewin’s current contract expires next year, he can begin pre-contract negotiations with international teams in January, making his contract status another hot topic.
In order to avoid losing Calvert-Lewin for free, Everton will presumably have to sell him next season. The Sun claims that the Toffees could do exactly that, despite their relegation battle.
Everton would be open to offers of about £20 million for the 27-year-old during the winter transfer window, but Calvert-Lewin doesn’t seem to have any desire to continue at Goodison Park.
Along with Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Italian powerhouse AC Milan, Arsenal is reportedly one of four teams that have expressed interest in removing Calvert-Lewin from Everton’s grasp.
Before spending £1.5 million to join Everton in 2016, Calvert-Lewin progressed through Sheffield United’s junior system. Since then, he has scored 70 goals and contributed 19 assists in 261 games for the Toffees.
Had Arsenal been offered the chance to sign a 2020 version of Calvert-Lewin for £20m, the Gunners should have bitten Everton’s hand off, and his lack of goals should not be taken completely at face value.
The Englishman would no doubt have more chances to find the back of the net in Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal team as opposed to Sean Dyche’s Everton side, especially given the Gunners’ proficiency from set-pieces.
Arsenal’s desire to add another striker to their ranks is no secret, as neither Gabriel Jesus nor Kai Havertz had any sort of impact in their 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, but Calvert-Lewin should not be the answer.
The 27-year-old is either already at or past his peak and cannot be trusted to stay fit either; the last thing that Arsenal need is another highly injury-prone star in their ranks.
Expect Arteta and co to say thanks but no thanks to this offer as they bide their time until the summer, when either Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko might be in the shop window.
