Cristian Romero’s return to action this weekend is improbable, but Ange Postecoglou is not ruling it out just yet.
At his pre-match news conference on Friday morning, Ange answered questions from the media regarding the likelihood of any of our injured players making a comeback. Our Head Coach provided an update on Cuti before Sunday’s encounter against Fulham (kick-off at 1.30pm UK).
Ange acknowledged that, with six players out for Thursday night’s Europa League match against AS Roma due to injury, the only player we can hope to see return to Premier League action is our Argentine centre half, but it is “unlikely” that he will be available.
“Romero is closer (to returning), he is probably the closest,” said Ange. “He still needs to finish certain tasks today and the session tomorrow, so even though he’s probably improbable, I’m not ruling him out.
“From last night, at this stage, it is a clean bill of health. Mind you, I thought that last week and then I had a guy in surgery (Guglielmo Vicario) an hour later… I think everything is alright from last night.”
Thus, Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended, and Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, Richarlison, and Micky van de Ven are all still out.
Ange was also questioned about Dominic Solanke, who appeared uneasy after Mats Hummels challenged him in the second half of Thursday’s stalemate with Roma.
Although the forward could have been a little hurt after the tackle, our head coach assured us that he should be good for the weekend.”He’s fine,” Ange said.
“He is a bit sore. He’s working hard for us but, at this stage, (there’s) nothing too significant (injury wise).
