Clayton McCullough, the first base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been hired as manager of the Miami Marlins.
According to several rumours on Sunday, Clayton McCullough, the first base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be the new manager of the Miami Marlins.
The 44-year-old McCullough has been with the Dodgers since 2014 in a number of capacities, but he managed the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system from 2007 to 2014.
At different stops in the Gulf Coast League, Class-A, and Advanced-A levels, he had a 402-357 record.
He shared similarities with Gabe Kapler, the current deputy general manager of Miami and a former manager of Philadelphia and San Francisco, while he was with the Dodgers.Shohei Ohtani, who became the first player to record a 50-50 season in 2024 with 59 stolen bases and 54 home runs, is credited for strengthening his running game because to McCullough. In the 2023 Home Run Derby, McCullough pitched to Mookie Betts, who called him his “favourite coach ever.”
Following their split at the conclusion of a 62-100 season, the Marlins are replacing Skip Schumaker.
