The Gunners now have significant ground to make up on both Manchester City and Liverpool. What’s more, Mikel Arteta’s side are in poor form. The North London club have now recorded back-to-back Premier League defeats, and have won just half of their ten Premier League games so far this season.
The Gunners lacked cutting edge against the Magpies, mustering just one shot on target during the match.
Kai Havertz led the line for the Gunners, but lacked service and could not create any real openings for himself. The German forward has been in good form recently, but has never been the most prolific of goalscorers.
Many Arsenal fans on X are convinced that the Gunners need a reliable alternative to Havertz to lead the line. Gabriel Jesus has also failed to provide the goals that Arsenal need, after all.
One said: “Havertz won’t score 15 goals. The team needs very good players not these makeshift arrangements.”
One added: “Please, Sell Havertz and Jesus for 100m and buy a TOP striker. No more playing game, WE WANT THE TITLE.”
Another claimed: “Like it’s crazy… For two seasons now that attack is screaming for a striker and a left winger…he now converted havertz to 9 when midfield isn’t working for him and brought in sterling.”
Bringing in a prolific goalscorer in the upcoming January transfer window could transform Arsenal’s chances in the title race.
Arsenal must make Viktor Gyokeres their top target in this regard. The Swedish forward has been in scintillating form for Portuguese side Sporting CP.
Gyokeres boasts the kind of physically admired by Arteta, and required to dominate against Premier League defenders. He is also a clinical finisher.
What’s more, Gyokeres may well feel that he has unfinished business in English football. He has previously plied his trade for Swansea City and Coventry City, but has never before had the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.
