Against Man City, Tottenham gave Micky van de Ven a serious injury scare.
The defender Micky van de Ven was forced off against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, potentially dealing Tottenham a serious injury blow.
At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Netherlands international was starting at left-back for the match against Man City.
However, his 13-minute performance gave Spurs serious cause for concern shortly after Timo Werner had put the home team ahead.
After gaining the ball with a sliding tackle in a challenge with Savinho, Van de Ven instantly grabbed at his right hamstring.
Van de Ven was treated by physiotherapists. But Ange Postecoglou swiftly decided that he should be substituted, and Destiny Udogie took his place.
Given Postecoglou’s previous warnings when questioned about why he did not play him in that position more frequently.
It was undoubtedly surprising to see him start at full-back. After using Micky at left defence during the last half of a victory over Burnley, Postecoglou remarked, “I’ve been mindful of Micky.”
“I have to be cautious with him with the demands of playing left-back in our system because he has had a few injuries. The physical demands at left-back are different, therefore I have to consider the future.”
According to that assertion, using him in that role was obviously risky, and Spurs would probably suffer as a result in the upcoming weeks.
If Van de Ven is not selected, Radu Dragusin and Cristian Romero will probably be considered as substitutes.
With Postecoglou once more having to use Udogie in games where the Spurs manager apparently wants to rest the Italy international, a start for Djed Spence or Ben Davies may also be imminent.
Spurs scored again just before halftime, despite the potentially serious setback, when Pape Matar Sarr curled a shot from the box’s edge into the corner following a brief corner routine.
Nonetheless, Van de Ven’s arrival back in the dugout only 30 minutes after being removed has given rise to some early optimism.
