NBA player Haywood Highsmith is seen visibly shaken in newly released police bodycam footage following a devastating car crash in Florida last month. The Miami Heat forward was involved in the February 6 accident that left a 21-year-old man critically injured.
The crash resulted in the young man requiring a partial amputation of his right leg. Highsmith was cited for careless driving in relation to the incident.
In the emotional footage, Highsmith gives a statement to Miami-Dade Police officers, fighting back tears. “The signal lights weren’t on,” he explains. “He got out of the car, and by the time he got out, it was too late.” The footage provides a glimpse into the traumatic aftermath of the accident.
NBA player Haywood Highsmith was driving his 2021 Audi A5 when he struck Alekxei Pino, who was assisting a stranded motorist. Pino was helping with a disabled Toyota SUV that had its lights off.
