Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Golden Arrows 5-0 in the Round of 16 to advance to the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinals.
Thapelo Morena gave Masandawana the lead in the fourteenth minute. Then, near the thirty-minute mark, Iqraam Rayners doubled Downs’ advantage as Abafana Bes’thende faltered to contain Masandawana’s potent attack.
The third goal of the home team was scored in the 74th minute by Mothobi Mvala, who was making a comeback from injury. Just four minutes after Mvala’s goal, under-pressure Peter Shalulile scored his eagerly expected first goal of the season, much to his relief.
Eight minutes before the final whistle, teenage wonder Kutlwano Letlhaku, who had come off the bench, put spice to injury for Arrows by scoring Masandawana’s fifth goal.
With a goal and an assist versus Arrows, Thapelo Morena was exceptional.
He merits recognition for his outstanding performance.
On this particular night, Sundowns outperformed Arrows.
It is understandable that coach Mabhudi Khenyeza would be dissatisfied with the game’s humiliating score.
Arrows and Sundowns will now concentrate on the Premier Soccer League.
