It is accurate to say that Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, is leading the state in a restoration effort. Politics and political events attract a lot of attention in Nigeria, just as in other states, which contributes to the negative perception of politics there, where honour and integrity are routinely violated. It becomes intriguing that Fr. Alia would go to embark on a mission of rebirth for his state as a result.
It certainly makes sense, considering former President Olusegun Obasanjo claimed that politics and religion are Nigeria’s two most profitable industries. The work of God, which genuinely anointed individuals such as Jonah, Moses, Jeremiah, Gideon, and some others, became the fierce ambition of many people, particularly Nigerians, who obviously had no tangible service to offer. These individuals hesitated to accept the work and offered various reasons for not wanting to follow their destinies of faith due to the challenging tasks involved.
Our political leaders seem to be studying how to successfully control and plunder the commonwealth, and they use our complex party system and tribal politics to affect the ignorance of both our young people who are blind and our educated elite. As a result, politics turned into shady, mysterious places that profit from “trade by barter” at the expense of our society; hence, the darkness that shrouded the sun in bright daylight.
The Nigerian youth, who have enormous potential but have not risen to the challenge of national rediscovering, have a great deal of the blame for our deplorable state of politics. They persist in demonstrating the worthlessness of their degrees, which is why they do not consider it offensive when a medical professional or an engineer from a Nigerian institution works as a funeral attendant, cleaner, clerk or security guard in Europe, defaming our universities and their faculty members.
An intriguing illustration of renaissance can be seen in the state of Benue’s changing image. Despite being relatively new to politics, the energetic, youthful Governor Alia—dubbed a “machine” these days—is rapidly demonstrating that anyone hoping to free his people from mental slavery will benefit greatly from having a sound mind as well as exposure to the western world. He has repeatedly demonstrated that the only people who can truly liberate themselves from their own minds and prisons are those who are driven.
Benue state has already adopted a modern aesthetic in just one year of Alia’s administration, something previous administrations were unable to accomplish. His followers never stop praising the abbreviation “YES FATHER” as a sign of their approval of him and his plans to change and transplant several industries. Alia’s acts show his vision and goal to bring the state back to life.
Since young people are the cornerstone of rapid and sustained growth, eliminating heavy alcohol consumption—the main contributor to his state’s backwardness and the biggest threat to the development of his youth—is one of his top goals. The governor has successfully prohibited midnight parties and other light-hearted gatherings that could encourage young people to engage in risky behaviour that could ultimately lead to their downfall. As a result, he has encouraged the lowering of the bride price so that their daughters can live better, attract admiration, and marry respectable men in accordance with biblical guidance.
Subject to inspection, the majority of the state’s roads are currently usable even if construction is still going on in a few places. The currently progressed construction of the Abuja to Makurdi road would facilitate travel to and from the state without fear of the unknown while also opening the state up to larger commercial companies. He promptly put plans in place to prevent his people from being engulfed by the intense flood, recognising that the River Benue is a point of entrance into his state and prone to flooding. One of the states with the most potential for success is still Benue, with its bright minds.
Maintaining his focus on youth potential, Governor Alia has found that sports are among the most potent draws for young people, and he is quickly revitalising the sports industry through inspiration and empowerment. Athletes from Benue participated in the recently concluded 8th National Youth Games, which took place in Delta State. The athletes thanked the government for providing funding so they could train and enjoy appropriate outings, just like their counterparts from other states, by presenting their medals to their governor.
The long-abandoned sports stadium is one of the key projects that will be put into service before the year is out. It has been refurbished and is anticipated to draw national events and bring colour to the surrounding area.
He also has recently provided town service buses for easier transport means, cheaper and more comfortable.
Governor Fr. Alia is a visionary who has long vision in all areas, particularly those where it can help young people refocus and realise their dreams. The man of God serving as the governor of Benue state is well-mannered and impressive. His emphasis on improving the state’s drainage systems and cleanliness will increase the area’s allure and beauty. As admirable as his efforts have been thus far, it will also be encouraging to see ongoing awareness campaigns about moral decadence, virtuous living, the risks of smoking, using harmful substances, and engaging in risky sexual encounters with minors without parental supervision. Increasing public awareness is necessary for religious organisations, town unions, and community-based organisations to create a robust and healthy society that will be a significant part of the new Nigeria.
