Hon Suswam or not?. Tension has recently increased between the camps of former governors Gabriel Suswam and Chief Samuel Ortom. This is as a result of the two power blocs’ battle for control of the PDP’s state structure in Benue. Having demonstrated political agility, the PDP in the state has left observers wondering who is in charge. Ortom is contemplating the opposite course of action. Senator Suswam is attempting to seize power in order to strengthen his desire to become the National Chairman.
As Dr. Ayu is a resident of Benue, Suswam urged in multiple stakeholder meetings that he must be replaced by another Benue Citizen. This is because the party had earlier assigned the position to North Central, which gave Benue an advantage.. This is because the party had earlier assigned the position to North Central, which gave Benue an advantage. As a result, on October 24th, stakeholders would take him into consideration for the position rather than electing him. Chief Ortom’s team, however, has refuted Suswam’s claims. They argued that Dr. Ayu is from Benue North West’s Jemgbagh rather than the East, where Senator Suswam is from. Supported by G-14, they recommended Engr. Terhide Utaan to succeed Ayu. So, Hon Suswam or not?
The party seems to have split along lines, with some members siding with former Governor Samuel Ortom and Senator Suswam. The Chief Ortom group claimed that they were denied entry to the PDP state Secretariat, which is Senator Suswam’s property. They also claimed that Chief Ortom had given one of his apartments at Oracle Business Venture. This is to serve as a temporary shield for the PDP, a claim Suswam denied. The elections for the state’s party’s ward, local government, and state congresses were the most recent drama. The Suswam group criticized the exercises in each of them and took them to court, but all were dismissed.
This led two State Congress meetings last week, one led by Senator Suswam and the other by Chief Ortom. The state chairman will be Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji of Chief Ortom’s camp, while the chairman of Suswam’s camp will be Mr. Chris Abah. Following the conflict, the PDP NWC sanctioned the Ward and Local Government Congresses. This was led by the party’s leader, Chief Samuel Ortom. On October 3, 2024, the Benue State Congress was ratified together with the members of the party’s Executive Committee. As a result, The State Chairman is Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji. Hon. Umar Bature, the PDP’s National Organising Secretary, signed the authorisation letter, which was delivered to the Benue State Chapter. He congratulated the State Executive Committee, which was led by Ezekiel Adaji. He also expressed hope that the new party officials in the state would lead the party’s affairs to future triumphs.
Following the successful State Congress of our Party in Benue State, October 3, 2024, the NWC of PDP has approved the State Congress and the Executive Committee Members that emerged from it on. And behalf of the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) after carefully reviewing the reports of the Electoral Committee and the Appeal Panel. The letter makes all of this clear.
As a result, I am providing you the following official list of the state executives that Benue State just elected. The statement said, “According to Section 47(1) of PDP’s 2017 Constitution as amended, these will be Benue State’s new State Exco members for a four-year term.” Dr. Fanen Gbaka declared that the elections of any PDP group not under the supervision of INEC and the national secretariat of the party were null and void. He urged everyone to unite and begin preparations for the general elections in 2027.
So therefore, this questions has been left hanging in the minds of many, Hon Suswam or not?
