The Oilers were first in line to acquire Lavoie because a team that finished higher in the NHL standings the previous season also made a claim for him. However, the Oilers were unable to assign Lavoie to AHL Bakersfield without having to pass waivers once more. Lavoie returned to the waiver wire on Thursday.
Vegas performed once more. This was the third time this week that Lavoie was claimed off waivers. But this time isn’t like the others.
Since the Golden Knights declared that Lavoie will be joining the Silver Knights this time, it appears that no other team attempted to grab him. He doesn’t have to clear waivers again because they regained him without any other team filing a claim after they lost him on waivers
This offers some indication of Lavoie’s prospects for the time being. Despite playing in seven NHL games in the previous season, he has not yet registered a point at the highest level. Nevertheless, he did record 28 goals and 50 points in 66 games with the Condors the previous season, and he can try to persuade Vegas to call him up later in the campaign.
The Hockey News Yearbook ranked Lavoie as Edmonton’s fourth-best prospect and predicted that he will join the NHL full-time in 2025–2026.
