On January 4, 2025, the Bulls will host “Derrick Rose Night” at the United Centre during their game versus the New York Knicks. Rose was mentored by Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau in Chicago, Minnesota, and New York
After being chosen by his hometown Chicago with the first overall choice in the 2008 NBA Draft, Rose played for the Bulls for seven seasons and the Knicks for three, among other teams.
“Derrick’s 2008 draft selection was a memorable occasion for the Bulls organisation as well as for the Chicago native who was finally able to fulfil his goal of playing for the team in his hometown. Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf said of Rose, “As a player and a person, Derrick represents the grit, resilience, and heart of this city.”He’s one of the hardest-working and most resilient athletes I’ve ever seen; he perseveres through hardships that would have broken most. It has been an honour to watch him develop from a Chicago Public League star to the youngest MVP in NBA history while he was a Bull. We felt like we had a chance to win every time Derrick took the floor, and his MVP season is still remembered as one of the greatest in this franchise’s illustrious past.
