Joe Elliott issues urgent video message after Def Leppard fans scammed out of money

Joe Elliott has issued an urgent video plea after Def Leppard fans were successfully scammed out of money by fake profiles.

Late on Monday night (13th May), Planet Rock presenter Joe Elliott posted a three-minute video on Def Leppard’s social media channels, which was filmed at his home in Ireland.

Neither Joe Elliott, Def Leppard or anyone in or related to the band will ever message you asking for money. Please do not engage with these profiles.

‘We do everything we can to block these things, but scammers are now successfully stealing money from fans. It is not Joe. Please do not fall for it.

‘All communication from Joe and the band will be through officially-verified profiles.’

In the clip, Joe explains that he was compelled to record the video message after he discovered some Def Leppard fans had been scammed out of money.

“I just dragged myself out the studio because a friend of mine just emailed me with another one of these ‘have you seen this one?’ fake Joe Elliott emails where somebody has successfully scammed money out of some of our funds,” Joe says in the clip.

“It’s been going on for a while we do everything we can to block these things. But this is really starting to piss me off now because they’re actually getting money out of folk. Here’s is the deal, right? I am the real me. Okay. Joe Elliott in Dublin, in rainy Dublin at home. That’s my record collection behind – you can see a couple of Def Leppard box sets right there, fake that you tw–! Not going to be able to do it.

“Here’s the deal, Elliott is spelled with two T’s not one. Everybody knows that. I’m not much to brag, but I don’t need your money. I would never ever ask you for money because my wife’s divorcing me or my leg fell off or I need a glass eye. It’s complete and utter horsesh—-! Please, please tell everybody you know I am NOT scamming anyone.

“So, anybody that pretends to be me or anybody that sends you an email claiming that they’re me, and they’re going to take you on a date, or that I’m stuck between divorces or, I don’t know, my house fell over. It’s not true. Okay. It’s absolute complete and utter boll—s, right?”

“I’m at home, my wife is at home, my three kids are running around going mental, I’m in the studio doing demo stuff. This is really me. That guy out there those people out there are not me. So if “I”, in inverted commas, ever asked you for money, it’s not me. Do you understand? There’s no AI thing going on here? I do not ask anyone for money. Never have never will. Okay, I won’t do it. It’s not me. So don’t fall for this awful, awful thing that’s going on here with people trying to scam money.

“And it’s not just me. I’ve talked to people in the industry. There’s hundreds of people getting scammed by supposedly dozens and dozens of artists and it’s absolutely not right.”

Def Leppard kick off their summer 2024 US stadium tour with Journey at Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri on Saturday 6th July 2024.

The major two month trek will feature alternating support from Steve Miller Band, Cheap Trick and Heart.
