According to Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news via X on Friday, June 28, talks between West Ham United and the Saints are underway for both the defender and Flynn Downes.
A trade deal is being discussed and is referred to as a “concrete possibility,” but the two clubs still need to work things out if they hope to complete a transfer.
Kyle Walker-Peters has decided to join West Ham United.
Will Kyle Walker-Peters join West Ham United from Southampton?
The Hammers could do a great deal with this, and it makes perfect sense to consider a swap with Southampton.
Many midfielders are already under Julen Lopetegui’s contract, and Downes, who is currently on loan at Southampton, has shown well and would probably be happy to join the team permanently.
Meanwhile, the London Stadium is in dire need of a right-back. Ben Johnson appears to be planning his departure from the team, and Vladimír Coufal will soon turn thirty-two.
Walker-Peters might be the ideal player to give West Ham’s defense a much-needed boost.
He performed well in an offensive capacity in the Championship the previous season, so Lopetegui may find him to be an intriguing right-back alternative.
Walker-Peters is a Tottenham fan, but London Stadium patrons would have to overlook that as the defender rose through the ranks and established himself in North London.
But that will undoubtedly be quickly forgotten if he joins the Hammers and performs well for them. In other West Ham news, the team hopes to sign a midfield player valued at £20 million before Brighton.
