The Athletic reports that Chelsea and young striker Marc Guiu have reached a “agreement in principle” regarding personal terms. Guiu is expected to leave Barcelona and join us on a six-year contract (like in almost all of our contracts these days), with the possibility of a one-year option.
The key factor in this transfer was Guiu’s €6 million release clause, which Chelsea is now expected to pay in one lump sum. Since the release clause is small enough, even with all the significant tax implications associated with its exercise, the overall financial commitment will remain relatively small.
Apart from Barcelona, Sevilla, and Bayern Munich, Guiu had also been in talks with a few other teams, but it was recently reported that he was leaning towards the Blues. If everything goes according to plan with the upcoming formalities, like the medical, Guiu should become the next highly promising young player to join Chelsea.
