As reported by Football London on June 19, Bryan King asserts that Tottenham would demand £80 million to sell center-back Cristian Romero in the face of interest from Real Madrid.
The former Spurs scout has called the World Cup winner a “outstanding” member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in North London.
Spurs are unwilling to let Romero leave the team, despite rumors linking him to Real Madrid. However, King, who is speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, believes the 26-year-old does have a price.
The fact that Spurs have players drawing interest from teams like Real Madrid can only be advantageous for them, King stated.
Romero knows the language and is a World Cup winner, but he will come at a high cost. Tottenham will want to get roughly £80 million selling him, more than what they paid for him.
Romero is under contract and has performed admirably for the team, so the initiative is in their hands.
Tottenham needs to use every effort to cling onto Cristian Romero.
Romero is expected to be a key player for Tottenham again in 2024–2025, so it seems that Madrid has not followed up on their interest in the defender.
If Madrid were to show more interest in Romero, though, it would be challenging to hold onto the center back.
Fortunately for Daniel Levy, Tottenham holds all the power because Romero is under contract until 2027, so Tottenham can demand a high price—£80 million would probably just be the starting point for any negotiations that take place.
