Following his retirement at the end of the previous season, Celtic are currently searching for a new goalkeeper.
Over the past few days, Peter Vindahl Jensen and Martin Dubravka have been the most frequently suggested choices; nevertheless, an earlier choice has suddenly come back into play.
Celtic was rumored to have made an approach to sign Romanian goalkeeper Horatiu Moldovan back in January. But in the end, the 26-year-old signed with Atletico Madrid, who triggered his 800,000 euro release clause.
However, Moldovan’s first few months in the capital of Spain haven’t gone as expected. He hasn’t played for Atleti yet, and he recently declared his intention to leave the team this summer.
“I want to leave Atletico Madrid in the winter or summer,” the goalie said in a RecordSport podcast titled “Tare de tot cu Viorel Grigoroiu.”
I’m not sure if I’ll depart right away because it will depend on how Romania and I perform at the Euros. Depending on the chances that present themselves
. But I really want to go outside and play.I would like to go if a good team from a major league presented itself to me. We’ll watch to see what deals surface. You cannot turn down the opportunity to sign with Atletico.
However, I’d like to play. Essentially offering himself for sale, it will be interesting to watch whether Celtic pursue Moldovan.
The fact that the champions made an offer to sign him a few months ago makes their prior interest logical.
The Parkhead supporters will now be closely watching Moldova’s performance in Germany as they are currently competing in the Euros with their country.
