According to a source, AC Milan is still enticed to sign Mats Hummels on a free transfer because they want to bolster their defense with some experience.
With a loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley to end his 2023–24 campaign, Hummels appears to have played his last game for Borussia Dortmund.
As per the reports in today’s Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Hummels, whose contract at Dortmund is about to expire, will be available for free transfer, and Milan is considering the possibility of signing him.
It is thought that he might provide the expertise and leadership that the team will be lacking with the departures of Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer, who left the team when their contracts expired.
In recent days, Hummels’ agent has expressed that while a renewal is a possibility, his client might choose to pursue a new experience outside of the Bundesliga.
“The yellow and black people who are in priority will meet in the next days. It takes him a few days to get fully charged. Then, he stated, “we would consider alternative bids if we are unable to reach an agreement with Dortmund.
One thing is for sure: Mats won’t travel to Asia, the United States, or very far from Munich. Though we have no idea what may transpire, we would much rather find a solution that enables him to travel to Munich in a few hours.
