In an effort to honor the Proteas as they chase their first-ever ICC trophy at the T20 World Cup, the Springboks put together a tribute film.
In solidarity of their cricket counterparts, the world champion Springboks have united the Proteas before of their second group match at the men’s T20 World Cup in New York.
Springboks Faf de Klerk (scrumhalf), Cheslin Kolbe (wing), and Beast Mtawarira (former prop) all wished the national cricket team success in an amazing video compilation.
Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler from South Africa, soared to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings following his incredible performance against Sri Lanka in the opening week of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which lit up New York.
As South Africa crushed Sri Lanka by six wickets in New York, Nortje produced outstanding figures of 4/7 from his four overs, creating a new standard for the best statistics by a Proteas fast bowler in the Men’s T20 World Cup.
The previous record was set in Sydney in 2022 by Nortje, who picked 4/10 against Bangladesh. The 30-year-old jumped nine spots in the Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings, breaking into the top 10 and up to ninth place after his outstanding performance in New York City.
Currently ranked second in the rankings for speed bowlers, Nortje sits behind Australia’s Josh Hazlewood (fifth). Adil Rashid, the spinner from England, is still ranked first, followed by Axar Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga.
The Proteas’ next match is scheduled for this Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. (South African time) in New York versus the Netherlands.
