When Man City prepares to part company with Ederson this summer, they have their sights on AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
The Brazilian, who has spent the last seven years with the Manchester side, is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2026. The 30-year-old is thought to be prepared for a fresh challenge ahead of the 2024–25 season, having achieved everything he could at City.
Saudi Arabia is showing interest in the Brazil international goalie, and Man City is reportedly prepared to take an offer for the stopper that exceeds £40 million when the transfer market opens.
For Pep Guardiola, Ederson has always been an essential player, and this season was no exception as the 30-year-old started in 43 games while maintaining 16 clean sheets for the Premier League winners.
But Man City is now prepared to split ways with their best goalkeeper, and they are keeping an eye on Mike Mainan of AC Milan as a possible substitute.
Man City has already considered replacing Ederson.
Manchester City is among the European teams showing interest in AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, according to French football expert Jonathan Johnson.
In his most recent exclusive piece for CaughtOffside’s The Daily Briefing, the writer claims that PSG is also considering signing Maignan and that, should they do so, they may move Gianluigi Donnarumma, their current goalie.
Man City may pursue any of them this summer to replace Ederson, with Milan seeking a price tag of about €50 million for Maignan.
Johnson stated: “Mike Maignan, the goalkeeper for AC Milan and France, is currently attracting interest from several elite European clubs.” As a possible Ederson replacement, there have been some connections with Manchester City, and from what I gather, PSG has also been considering the possibility of bringing Ederson back at some point in the future.
A move for someone like Maignan, in my opinion, would also be intriguing because it might tempt PSG to explore offers for Donnarumma, who might then be a possibility to replace Ederson at Man City. Not only is he possibly not Pep Guardiola’s ideal match, but his future is also in doubt.
