With his remarks regarding Rafael Leao’s future, Paolo Scaroni has gotten himself into hot water by implying that “I will pack his bags” in the event of a substantial offer.
Not a very wise statement to say, particularly now. After a dismal 2023–24 season and the impending news of Paulo Fonseca’s arrival, Milan supporters are already tense. In light of that, Scaroni was probably better off keeping his mouth shut.
Update: Milan and Scaroni refute the remarks made public in a message to the media outlets.
Scaroni was questioned by Dire, as reported by Sportface, regarding Leao’s future and the speculation that Milan may be able to obtain between €150 and €175 million for their player.
With that statement, the president undoubtedly revealed his true colors—he has never been very concerned about specific people. “Leao? I’ll pack his bags if they pay us 150 million,” he said. It makes sense that Milan has stated that they will consider any significant offer made for one of their stars.
But it’s never a good idea to publicly say that you would gladly trade one of the stars for a lot of money.
Above all, it’s disrespectful since Leao will probably read the president’s remarks and suddenly become a number rather than a Milan player and a person.
