The Dallas Mavericks player Kyrie Irving is scheduled to play his former team in the NBA Finals, but he does not appear to be focusing on the revenge angle leading up to the series.

Thursday night’s Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals saw the Mavericks defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves, advancing them to the NBA Finals. With 36 points apiece, Irving and Luka Doncic led Dallas in scoring.

TNT’s Ernie Johnson questioned Irving on his excitement about playing the Celtics in Boston when the star point guard returned to the city during the postgame festivities.

Irving’s answer was quite straightforward. Yes, without a doubt.

That’s it, dude—Boston is getting in the way of our objective,” Irving remarked.

Irving was obviously attempting to minimize what will be the most intriguing Finals plot. From 2017 to 2019, Irving played two seasons in Boston, but things did not go well there.

Before departing to play for the Brooklyn Nets alongside Kevin Durant, he publicly said that he intended to re-sign with the franchise. Since then, Irving’s relationship with Celtics supporters has been, to put it mildly, shaky.

When Irving and the Celtics played each other in the playoffs the last time around, he trashed the emblem of his old team at TD Garden. Then someone threw a water bottle at Irving.

With a coarse cry, Celtics supporters have already expressed how eager they are for their side to play Irving once more. Irving had to have more incentive going into the series, even if he won’t admit it.
